2 Families Displaced By Apartment House Fire In Central Jersey

Two families were left homeless by a fire that ripped through a Central Jersey apartment building, authorities said.

The fire broke out at 3:21 p.m. Sunday at Middlesex Village Apartments on Wellington Street.

Middlesex police received numerous 9-1-1 calls about smoke at the apartments.

Police arrived and found a working structure fire in apartment 51B, which was unoccupied. 

Residents in adjacent units were quickly evacuated, police said.

The Middlesex Fire Department responded and promptly extinguished the fire.

The damage caused by the fire rendered apartments 51B and 51A uninhabitable, police said.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time but it is not believed to be suspicious.

The Dunellen Fire Department, Finderne Fire Department - Bridgewater

Township, Middlesex County Fire Marshal’s Office, Middlesex Borough Office of Emergency Management and Emergency Medical Services from Bound Brook and Dunellen also responded.
